Sergei Inkatov

Born in Baku, Azerbaijan in 1971, Sergei's early artistic influences came from his father, also a painter, who taught him to reproduce local architecture in watercolour, encouraged him to attend art classes and later to enrol in Baku's School of Art.  He subsequently transferred to the Venitsianov School of Art in Tver, Russia.  There he learned to create realism in the classical painting tradition of the grand masters such as Issac Levitan and Ilya Repin and it is through them, no doubt, that he developed his ability to capture light, colour and rhythm that are features of his exiting work today.

Following his academic eduction and having settled in the city of Tallin in Estonia which he now considers home, he began to exhibit locally and very quickly began to establish himself in the art market, particularly with foreign investors.

Sergei's work depicts a landscape, an old town, a still life , a sailing ship or an abstract composition in a unique and vibrant way, celebrating the joy of colour, light and life itself.

His work is about texture, achieved with strong brush strokes and the use of colour to construct the space and give the piece dimension and form.
